About

Sam and his dog

Sam Brackbill is a professional audio engineer, multi-instrumentalist and music teacher based in Austin, Texas. He specializes in recording, mixing and live sound and has worked all over Austin. He began his musical journey at age nine when he first started taking guitar lessons and the love for music grew with each week. As he progressed, he picked up more instruments and began writing his own musical parts, and after a few years, started to record himself and some friends. This recording sent him down a rabbit hole of learning how small details can affect how a microphone will pick up sound and began a new love for sound instead of just instruments. He continued to learn by experimentation and watching videos on youtube before pursuing a bachelors degree in audio production at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. There, Sam learned why these tiny changes could make a huge difference and honed his techniques while getting hands on experience with industry standard gear.

From the beginning, Sam liked to tinker with his guitars by taking them apart to see the wiring, even though he did not understand what anything did. He even stripped down his first electric guitar as much as he could by taking off the neck and hardware and then put it back together to gain an understanding of it. Today, he still tinkers and loves working with his hands. While he still doesn't understand everything, he likes to diagnose electronic problems in his gear himself when possible, and is wiring his studio with mostly his own cabling. He is always trying to better understand and learn the electronics within his gear so he can have the best possible knowledge of how everything works.
